Getting Your IR Lamps Right for Sidel SBO and Matrix Lines
If you’ve spent any time around PET blow molding, you know that heat consistency is everything. One wrong setting or a cheap lamp, and your whole run is shot. That’s why we make sure our lamps fit both the old-school SBO lines and the newer Matrix series—without you having to tweak a single thing on your machine. The fit has to be perfect. We aren’t talking “close enough.” We’re talking exact. If a lamp is off by even two millimeters, you’re going to feel it during installation. You’ll feel that quartz glass stressing, and that’s a one-way ticket to a premature burnout. We match the physical footprint and the electrical load of the OEM units exactly. It’s a simple swap. The voltage and wattage stay right where they should be, so you aren’t worrying about tripping a circuit in your oven. About the glass and the heat… We use high-purity quartz because these things take a beating with rapid heating and cooling. These lamps shoot shortwave infrared directly into the preform. They aren’t wasting energy heating up the air around the bottle; they’re getting straight to the point. If you’re worried about scorching the PET skin, we’ve got coated options to dial in that emission spectrum. But a quick heads-up: keep an eye on your cooling blowers. These high-wattage tubes put out a massive amount of heat. If your airflow is clogged or just too weak, the lamps will overheat and die. Simple as that. Just plug and play We use standard industrial connectors, so you can get them wired up and moving quickly. The real secret, though, is the geometry. We center our tubes to hit the exact focal point of both SBO and Matrix reflectors. When the heat hits the center of the preform, you stop seeing those annoying cold spots in the bottle wall. No new brackets. No modifications. Just pull the old tube out, slide the new one in, and get back to work.
